From January 1, 2026, access to the LEZ zone will be banned for:
Diesel Euro 5
Petrol Euro 2 (and lower)
Vehicles that do not meet the required standard will receive warning letters for the first few months, then a fine of approximately €350 if they continue using the zone.
Diesel must be Euro 6+ to enter without a fine.
Petrol must be Euro 3+.
The stricter LEZ rules originally scheduled for January 1, 2026 (such as banning diesel Euro 5 and petrol Euro 2) have been removed by the Flemish government. This means there will be no new strict LEZ restrictions in 2026 for now.
Brussels: STRICT — from January 2026, Euro 6+ for diesel, Euro 3+ for petrol.
Antwerp & Ghent: No new restrictions for now — strict plans were canceled.
LEZ rules are not the same across all of Belgium — each city sets its own standards.
